How Charley's began... In 1986 Company president and CEO Charley Shin opened his first restaurant on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Where are Charley's restaurants located? There are nearly 200 "mall scene" and "street scene" Charley's franchise units across the country, in 38 U.S. states and Canada, and around the world (now in Japan, Korea, Germany and Guam). What about financing? Does Charley's offer financing? How much money do I really need to open a Charley's restaurant? You will need a minimum of $75,000 in liquid assets and at least $200,000 net worth to qualify for additional financing secured through third-party lending sources which Charley's recommends. What is Charley's initial franchise fee? There is a one-time franchise fee of $19,500 for a single unit. Once I am approved how long does it take to open my store?
