Local entrepreneur finds product to ease his daughter’s asthma suffering.

Stuart Wright, of Harrogate, started two successful businesses but was intrigued when he heard about a positive ventilation unit that could improve his daughter’s asthma. He was so taken with the concept he bought the North & East Yorkshire franchise.

“The more I learnt about the products I wanted to help other parents with children who suffer from asthma. I felt that it was a noble and worthy cause.”

Originally positive input ventilation units were installed into our homes to eradicate condensation and mould. The unit does this by delivering fresh filtered air into a property, reducing humidity and dust mite populations. Whilst condensation and mould were removed home owners were finding another side affect. By reducing dust mite populations we were also removing a major trigger for asthma and respiratory allergies. Further research by the Sefton Council and the NHS has proved this.

EniviroVent manufacture these units in Hornbeam Park, Harrogate and are Britain’s leading manufacturer of low energy, sustainable ventilation equipment with a turnover of £13 million. Established in 1987, the business became part of the Solar & Paul group in 2007, with more than 80 subsidiaries, factories and distributors worldwide. But it all started with one man, Frank Farmer, who spotted a PIV unit in a merchant store and went on to develop his own products. Stuart identifies with this:

“I started my businesses in the same way. I look for an opportunity I can believe in and the story about Frank Farmer made me see how this business will work. The need for ventilation in our homes has become critical. A focus on energy efficiency using double glazing, loft and wall insulation has created a cling film effect. Air can’t escape and starts to smell so we cover it up the problem air fresheners. Instead we need to let our homes breath.“
