Background..
Peter Atkinson worked in the motor trade for 10 years before becoming a Belvoir Franchisee. He discovered us whilst working for Mercedes Benz in Lincoln, where he met and spoke with three new Belvoir franchisees who had just purchased Smart cars. Whilst discussing their individual requirements for the funding of their vehicles, Peter became intrigued and decided to explore the opportunity further.
Why Belvoir?
Peter decided that he was ready for the challenge of running his own business. He was working 50-60 hours every week selling and arranging finance and insurance products available to Mercedes Benz customers, when he began to realise that he could make more money working for himself than for other people. He spent two years looking for an industry that would allow him to use the transferable skills he had developed and started to investigate the lettings industry and Belvoir in particular in more detail.
He chose Belvoir because of the comprehensive training and support and growing size of network available to him, as his research showed him that entering into any new business with no previous knowledge or experience is very risky when completely on your own. Peter explains “Franchising seemed to offer the best of both worlds, being your own boss, providing freedom for making all kinds of decisions knowing your accountable but equally responsible for the outcome, but with the added advantage of utilising established systems already developed by the franchising network, combined with a very predictable minimum income each month created by a 99% managed portfolio.”
Success to date..
Peter's first year with Belvoir has been amazing! He bought the Sleaford Franchise as a going concern and tripled the turn over in that first year. He was awarded the Newcomer of the Year Award at the Belvoir High achievers Award presentations in December 2005 and has since gone on the be one of the 10 finalist in the British Franchise Association’s “Franchisee of the Year 2006”
Vision for the future
Peter’s vision for his future is very clear. He wants to double his business over the next two years and take on more staff to allow him to switch to a 4 day working week and enjoy more quality time with his growing family but with the comfort of a good healthy bank balance.
Peter's success is supported by his wife Abigail, pictured with him above at the 2005 Belvoir Awards Ceremony.
