 How I became a flexible business woman working around my family commitments with Shoes Galore!I purchased a Shoes Galore franchise for many reasons, but mainly because I wanted to work flexible hours around my family commitments and to work from home. As a business idea Shoes Galore is fantastic as women love shoes, and putting that together with working around children its one step off perfect. My husband was concerned about me running my own business as it was something that he thought we would never do. In Andy’s words he would say that we are “totally risk averse”! I have two children and wanted to return into the work environment but the thought of turning up to an office on a daily basis, doing the same mundane job just didn’t appeal. I’d had a shoe party about 6 months prior to buying into the business and when my husband met with Lesley Ann (our master franchisor) and talked through everything it made perfect sense to us and it also helped that he saw first hand the excitement at my initial party and was won over. I’d moved from Bournemouth to Hitchin and contacted Lesley-Ann when I’d settled in and knew it was time to start up my new business venture. The first parties were mainly new friends I’d made in Hitchin and that was good as they understand it’s your new business and they ask more awkward questions as they feel they can and it helps with confidence. The shoe party bookings are not hard to come by as long as you ask. Once past that hurdle you are running your own business and feeling like the boss was for me was a new and exciting challenge. I start in May 2007 and have enjoyed every aspect of this business as well as earning a second income for our family – which has helped us pay for all the little extras in life. I generally do around 2 evening parties a week and now the parties are coming from referrals and word of mouth and yes from the gates at the school playground. I don’t have problems getting parties and selling shoes and my best party so far I did sales of £683, which meant that I earned £340 in just 3 hours. Wow!  I just adore selling shoes, bags and belts by party plan because woman love buying them! When I tell women what I do their eyes light up and they next ask if they can book a party! Wow, I’m living and working in a business that brings a great deal of happiness to women and making money too, what more can a woman ask for?It’s a perfect business for mums as most parties are evenings and some in school time, and when the schools break up it’s entirely up to you whether you work or not. A very empowering job. The downside is what shoes to choose for your collection, because when you go to our head office in Christchurch and see the entire collection, the lovely designs it’s difficult to choose which designs to put into your own collection. I sell shoes from £19 to £79, but mainly around the £40 - £50 and my bags start from £19 to around £45 which is very competitive with the high street, but what’s so shoeunique about Shoes Galore is that we have our own designs in a variety of colours! Not just black and brown but also in grey, purple, pink, yellow, orange, teal, green, lime, red, gold, silver, and on it goes! "It’s flexible and honestly one of the best jobs I’ve ever had!"
