Successful Franchises UK Fitex Ltd

Kevin and Teresa Buckler (pictured) run their Fit-ex Franchise in Harpenden Hertfordshire.  Before embarking on a career together Kevin had worked in Advertising and the Print Trade & Teresa in Merchant banking. Then for the last 15 years Teresa took the role of a full time Mum to their 3 children.  Their business has now been up and running since May 2006 and with the support of Fit-ex continues to grow.     

Independence…  

The couple looked into franchising a couple of years before committing. They had always wanted to run their own business.  Kevin says, “We had always wanted the independence of running our own business.  After some consideration we saw Franchising as the best option as the risk is much lower than starting a new business from scratch.”  Then in January 2006 Kevin was made redundant.  This opened up an opportunity to explore franchising further and helped them realise their dream.

Fit-ex impressed from the beginning…

Kevin was always certain that a home improvement Franchise was what appealed to him.  He researched many options before stumbling across Fit-ex at a Franchise exhibition;  “We were walking around the exhibition when we saw the Fit-ex stand. A husband and wife who owned a Fit-ex Franchise together were manning the stand.  They were very helpful and gave us a good insight into how they operated their Franchise together, the ins and outs etc…” 

The face of Fit-ex…  

The MD of Fit-ex David Jones was also present at the show.  He made a real impact on Kevin & Teresa as they eagerly researched their future.  His manner and business approach consequently sold the concept to Kevin & Teresa.

The Husband/Wife Franchise Partnership…  

Kevin & Teresa work as a team.  Kevin attends appointments all day between 9.00 am and 5.00pm with most jobs taking between 3-4 hours.  Meanwhile Teresa takes care of the behind the scenes work including marketing, booking appointments and answering enquiries. This has proven to be a highly effective business partnership.  Kevin says, “Teresa is an excellent Marketer.  In fact in just a year I would estimate that Teresa has generated around 40% of the business from her marketing activity alone.”  

Training

Fit-ex provides all Franchisees with initial training at Head Office.  This intense course takes place over 2 weeks and teaches individuals all they need to know about the business in both a classroom and hands on approach. Kevin says, “I found all the training insightful but personally I think I gained most of my hands on confidence from the on site training.  Getting involved on a real job really helped."

Support

Kevin exclaims, “Fit-ex are incredibly helpful.  David himself is always contactable by phone if I have a question.  In fact on some 2 man jobs David takes time out of his day to personally assist me.  If he is ever unavailable then the team at Head Office are on call.  The team are very efficient at getting answers to you straight away.  This has a direct impact on the quality of the customer service I can provide.”
