Bill Simpson from Solihull began operating his Billboard Connection Franchise in February 2006. He came to Billboard Connections after a successful career as Development Manager at a large Alcoholic Drinks Company. 

Bill always wanted to go it alone…

Bill had always wanted to run his own business.  Investing in a Franchise gave him this opportunity whilst in the knowledge he had a proven business formula behind him. He says; “I have always wanted to run my own business. Franchising has given me the opportunity to run my own business whilst taking advantage of the Brand name, the buying power of a group of businesses and the ongoing support from the franchisor as well as the close communication with the other franchisees. We all work together as a team and genuinely want to help each other. I know that I am in business for myself, but not by myself. ”

Low Overheads…

Bill knew he wanted a business with very low overheads in a growth market.  Outdoor advertising fitted this criterion. He says; “Outdoor Advertising is growing faster than any other form of advertising in the UK, I have very low overheads as there is no stock or retail premises to run.”

Day to Day Activity…

One of the great aspects of a Billboard Connections Franchise is the nature of the day to day activity.  As a franchisee, you can expect to meet different people everyday, and watch the creative element of the advertisements take shape. Bill says, “To see the advertisements appear on a Billboard, a Bus or a Bus Shelter, to name but a few media formats, is extremely rewarding.”   
  
Why Bill chose Billboards...

When asked why he chose a Billboard Connections Franchise Bill expresses his reasons clearly; “The biggest thing for me was that there is really no limit on your earnings potential in this industry.  I chose Billboard Connection because of the industry but more importantly because of the people involved with the business and the fact that it is part of a much larger organization with over 20years of franchising experience with the United Franchise Group.  The training and ongoing support has been second to none and I am loving the industry!.”

Bill shares with us his typical day…

8.00 – 9.30am:  I get up in the morning and check through my emails and send out any  proposals and requests for information that I need to get out.

9.30 – 12.30: I go to my meetings that have been booked and speak with other businesses before and after to ensure I am bringing in new prospects. The nice thing about this is that most businesses are simply unaware that they can advertise using outdoor media. When they find out how targeted and cost effective it can be, it certainly isn't a hard sell!

12.30 – 14.00: I send off any information requests that have arisen from the marketing efforts of the morning.  Look through designs, orders and proposals.

14.00 – 17.00: This is typically when I deliver my proposals and meet with my customers.

17.00 – 18.00: The day is nearly over - just tidying up any loose ends!

We asked Bill about the benefits of investing in a Franchise… "The biggest benefit to me has been as a business owner you are not alone.  You are part of a network of businesses all following the same successful formula.  The other benefit has been the contacts with the media owners, printers and designers that on my own would have been a time consuming and costly job to do.”

Bills Advice to you…

Bill has only be operating for just over a year and he has experienced great success in this short time.  He seems focused and positive about the future and is seeing excellent growth in his business.  His experience can offer you a good insight into this business.  Here is his advice to future Billboard Connection Franchisees…

"Work Hard!  it is all about letting people know what you can do for them. Look after your clients. If you do that they will keep coming back. Once you have a core of clients ensure you are leverging as many referrals as possible from them. Finally, have fun!
