In fact, most are reporting that they are gaining extra work as more and more motorists decide against buying that new car and instead decide to spend money on keeping their existing vehicles in good shape. David has particular reason to be delighted with his rapidly developing business. Before joining ChipsAway, he worked for a large bank, with responsibility for sales of portfolio management services across the North of England. David decided that he’d had enough of the job he describes as ‘unbelievably dull and boring’** and jumped ship at the beginning of the year. With the benefit of hindsight, David declares himself hugely relieved not to be in the position of many former colleagues, who have either lost their jobs or are worrying about the security of their future. “I left my job with the bank before all the dramatic events of recent months,” he says, “but I’m increasingly glad I made the change – particularly as my business is doing so well – had I stayed with the bank, my life could have been very different indeed. As it is, I’m making really good money, I have the freedom to enjoy the fruits of my hard work and I’m loving every minute of being my own boss!” David estimates that he looked at hundreds of different ideas for running his own business, all of which he binned, before researching franchise opportunities on the internet. “For me, ChipsAway really stood out,” he recalls. “The business model looked excellent, the company responded quickly to my enquiry and the information they sent was professional and comprehensive, so I booked myself onto one of their Open Days to find out more.” ChipsAway’s unique SMART (Small to Medium Area Repair Technology) system enables franchisees operating from fully equipped mobile workshops to make high quality repairs to minor car bodywork damage, quickly and cost-effectively, restoring paintwork in a matter of hours. The quality, value and convenience of the ChipsAway ‘on-the-spot’ repair service has made the company number one in the marketplace, with over 350 franchisees across the UK and a network of master franchisors worldwide. Although David is one of ChipsAway’s newer recruits, having launched in June this year, he has quickly established a solid and strongly growing customer base. Over his launch weekend, he and his business developer Steve Ide – an experienced ChipsAway franchisee who mentored David throughout his launch period and during the early days of his business – generated a staggering £21,000 in estimates and booked over £7,000 worth of work. “When I officially opened for business on Monday I had my first month fully booked, which was a fantastic start,” he confirms. “Over the following weeks, many of those early enquiries turned into firm orders. Subsequently, I’ve run another promotion and achieved another £5,000 worth of new business. Customers love what I do and increasingly are recommending me to other people, so the business has gained a real momentum of its own.” According to David, ChipsAway is a very popular business; customers are invariably delighted with the results of the repair and appreciate having a specialist turn up at their home or place of work and completing the work within a few hours. “There’s great job satisfaction,” he concludes. “To be honest, I would never have seen myself doing this, but becoming a ChipsAway franchisee has been the best decision I ever made - I absolutely love it!”
