“It’s great to feel part of CardGroup Greetings’ growing business and sustain the lifestyle you want to sustain.”
I was in a senior position in logistics when I decided to take advantage of a redundancy package. I went to a franchise exhibition, knowing I wanted to work for myself. Key for me was: Could I do it? Could I make it successful? Was there potential for growth? And was the product sufficiently unique? CardGroup Greetings ticked all those boxes.
Another big reason for taking the franchise was that I thought the product was great. The designs are bright and eye-catching - retailers simply wouldn’t stock the products if they didn’t sell!
My working week nowadays differs 100% from how it was in the beginning. In the first year, it was all about growing my own business, developing my customer base and getting the contracts. The more customers you get, the less time you obviously need to spend selling. These days, my working time is mostly about replenishing and merchandising.
I started with two CardGroup Greetings franchises and now own three, with around 348 outlets. These range from independent retailers, such as flower shops, gift shops and newsagents, to small privately owned supermarket chains.
The beauty of owning a CardGroup Greetings franchise is that the company has a huge international backing yet is flexible and small enough in the UK to care. If I have a query, I know I can phone Paul Thomas whereas in larger operations it would be impossible to speak to the master franchisor. CardGroup Greetings is like a tight-knit family unit, which is very appealing.
For anyone thinking of owning a CardGroup Greetings franchise, I would say this: if you want to be your own boss, this is an opportunity that’s very rewarding but you have to put in the hours and effort. Yes, I work longer hours than when I was in an office but I know I have my own business in which I’ve built up enormous value should I ever decide to sell on.
