Karen McGee has been running Leaps and Bound programmes in the Croydon area for two years and was one of the first -ever franchisees. She explains:

“All the staff are trained to deliver the programme by Patricia Maude and the Tumble Tots technical team. They complete an intensive two-day training session followed by ongoing observations.”

“I work mainly in day nurseries: some of them offer Leaps and Bounds as an optional extra but some build it into their programme for all the children.” she adds. “It’s very, very popular. The children learn agility, balance, co-ordination as well as songs, nursery rhymes and games. Because there are only 10 in the group, we are able to give them lots of individual attention. The other plus point is that the children feel very settled in a familiar environment – they’re not in a large, noisy and anonymous hall – and because they feel comfortable they are able to learn more.”

“It ‘s really confidence-building.” continues Karen. “If you can imagine, it takes the fear out of taking your child to the playground. You just know that if they go up the slide, they’ll get safely to the top, turn round and slide down properly! It gives them, and their parents, that confidence.”

“Leaps and Bounds children are have-a-go children. They’re the ones who, when they get to school, have the confidence to try out new things and to test their boundaries.”
