When Bevan Mayall went to work for an existing franchisee, little did he know that within two years he would be a franchise owner himself. Now, five years later (and still only 32) he and his father-in-law, Steve, own and opera te the third largest franchise within the Express Worldwide UK system.“I liked the concept from the beginning”, says Bevan, “and was very impressed with the performance of the franchise in Leeds that I worked for. I was selling a service that businesses regularly used but now I was bringing them large discounts and saving them money. It wasn’t hard and when I saw the money the franchisee was making I decided to have a go myself. It’s one of the best things I ever did!” Express Worldwide is one of the largest international resellers of express parcel and transportation services with offices in the UK, the USA and Australia. By combining the delivery volume from hundreds of thousands of small businesses world-wide, they use bulk-buying power to negotiate large discounts from the major international carriers such as DHL, FedEx and UPS and then pass these savings onto their customers. It offers up to 39% savings on delivery costs and provides a back-up service to ensure every package arrives at its destination on time, anywhere in the world. The carriers provide the pickup, logistics and deliveries, whilst Express Worldwide Ltd perform the customer services and invoicing. Bevan goes on to say that Express Worldwide is a true white collar franchise and is built upon the strength of multi-billion pound infrastructures such as DHL, FedEx and UPS. “I don’t need to own a van, operate a truck or even pick up a parcel - the carriers do all that for me! All I do is recruit the customer, give them world-class customer service and invoice them for the services the carriers have performed.” Bevan, who bought the franchise for Bradford and later on bought the franchise for Halifax goes on to say “we are showing that superior customer service and savings are not only reserved for larger companies. This world-class product has enabled us to do £500,000 in revenue during 2008 and we planning a 50% growth this year." When asked about the recession he commented, “Because we deliver discounted courier and transportation services, more customers want to see us, more of them are looking to save money without compromising the services they are used to.” | ||||
