I’m Lesley-Ann Simmonds, Managing Director of Shoes Galore Limited. Three years ago I had a major car accident that made me re-evaluate my life and future. A little like Lucie, I decided to leave behind 15 years in the frantic world of advertising, marketing and design and focus on a business that would bring me some pleasure!

From past conversations with my girlfriends, I was aware of the issues that women face with trying to get that home and work life balance. One of my friends is a single mum and she took a mundane job at a school just so that she could fit in with the children’s school holidays. My sister in law would spend around £800 per month on childcare and would often complain that she felt she was working to keep the childminder employed! I knew there just had to be a better way.

With my background in design and colour, I am able to design and offer shoes that women love and want to own. I instinctively know what designs, colours and textures look right and this really helps when I am putting our collections together. Most of our shoes are made by small family-owned manufacturing companies and retail at £49 to £79 per pair. The designs are limited edition and, unlike the high street, our shoes come in a wide range of colours. We also offer shoes in the range of £19 to £49 which are designed in Spain or Italy but manufactured in the Far East. Our handbags and accessories range from £9 to £49 and we focus very much on the latest “must have” fashion items

I decided to take the Shoes Galore concept to the Baby Show as I wanted to start raising awareness to mums and potential mums that they do actually have options other than mundane jobs or expensive childcare! Self-employment is not for everyone, but I remember meeting Lucie at the show and chatting about the concept of selling shoes by party plan around her family commitments. I was impressed with Lucie - she was really lovely and very friendly. I know she will do well with her franchise. Our Head Office, showroom and warehouse is in New Milton, Dorset. We sell via party plan in homes, corporate venues, coffee mornings and shoe fashion shows.
