Fast track executive recruitment company Executives Online - which provides a mix of different types of executive recruitment services, including interim management, project and change management recruitment, and permanent recruitment - has signed up its first UK franchisee in a natural move to broaden the brand and meet growing demand for its services.

Derek Ward is to head up Executives Online North, encompassing the Northwest, Northeast, Yorkshire and Humberside.

Fifty-six year-old Ward has an exemplary background as a sales and marketing director, with most of his experience coming from the telecoms and security sectors.  He has also worked as a self-employed executive, taking on several interim roles with clients and providing his own services as a consultant. He was Sales and Marketing Director for Initial Fire and Security and has an in-depth understanding of the recruitment market having witnessed it from both sides of the fence, as a candidate and as UK Group Sales Director for ADT where he was responsible for 850 sales people.

"As an employer I saw plenty of shoddy recruitment agencies," he comments. Companies use interim managers when they face a sudden vacancy among their executive team, either from an abrupt departure of staff, illness, or other reasons. Interim managers are also employed when a company faces a mammoth but relatively short-lived task for which it lacks a certain skill, or just lacks the bandwidth to deal with, for example integrating an acquisition, launching a product, relocating a factory. An interim manager - effectively a self-employed executive working for a series of clients on a contract, rather than employed by them - can be recruited to match very detailed criteria and take up a new post within days, compared to the months that traditional executive search can take.
