nxo franchisee Michelle Stott (pictured) has never been afraid of taking on a challenge – and making it a success. nxo holds a unique position as the only strategic marketing franchise in the UK. After becoming the first nxo franchisee, Michelle has proved to be a pioneer, with nxo Birmingham quickly being followed by eight other new franchises in London, Liverpool and Coventry. As the UK’s only marketing franchise, nxo is growing quickly and is attracting interest from other major cities.

Michelle’s talent for spotting a good opportunity began in the playground. At primary school, she unscrambled Rubik’s Cubes for other pupils, charging £1 per puzzle. According to Michelle: "No one knew how to do them, so I bought a book, learned how to solve them - and then made a fortune".

Finding the Niche

This early talent for spotting a good opportunity has not deserted her. Michelle took up the offer of an nxo franchise soon after her own research uncovered a gap in the market for quality marketing services targeted at SMEs (small to medium enterprises).

"I had been working in sports marketing for a number of years, when I decided to top off my experience by undertaking an MSc in Strategic Marketing at the Birmingham Business School. While completing research for my MSc, I found that there were lots of SMEs that didn't have their own marketing department but wanted some marketing help," she explains.

“Shortly after that I found out about the nxo franchise opportunity, which fitted the bill perfectly to capitalise on my research findings. nxo directly targets SMEs, offering them a unique solution to their marketing requirements.”

Developing nxo Birmingham

After undergoing nxo ’s highly selective recruitment process, Michelle was working to expand the business from day one. Applying her learning and experience from a variety of “in-house” marketing positions to provide real strategic marketing solutions to SMEs, Michelle chose to focus on sports and leisure clients, drawing on her vast experience in this industry.

Within a year of the launch, nxo Birmingham moved into prestigious new offices on Birmingham’s Victoria Square with a fast expanding client base.

The nxo franchise gives you full control of your own business but with the support and expertise of the hub, based in Preston. As a full-service strategic marketing agency, nxo has attracted a wide range of clients in a variety of sectors.

Franchisees have signed major clients, including some international “blue chip” companies and have taken on the responsibility of building start up businesses into major companies.

Michelle says: “nxo is not an ‘easy option’. You’ll need a proven track record in marketing related business before you are allowed to take up a franchise. But the opportunities for growth and development are fantastic.”
