Virtually every home and workplace uses gas and electricity, plus associated appliances. There are currently over three million rented homes in the UK that need to undergo annual safety inspections. This means that hundreds of landlords and letting agents across the country need to comply with legislation and get properties checked every 12 months.
This has created a recession-proof market with repeat inspections every year worth £270 million a year. Landlords need full confidence and reassurance that properties they manage are legal and safe for their tenants at all times.

Is gas-elec right for you?

To become a safety inspection franchisee you will need to have gas qualifications and CCN1 as a minimum. Along with this you will have an engineering background, you may be a plumber, heating engineer, multi-skilled qualified engineer or similar. We offer a comprehensive training programme to bring you up to standard in all aspects of gas and electrical safety inspections and appliances.  

To become a g-fix ‘handyman’ franchisee you will need experience and the ability to carry out repairs and household maintenance.

The gas-elec franchise investment initially is £16,500, plus VAT.  The equipment package includes; signage to your van, all tools and test equipment, uniform and laptop computer.

Franchisee Support

The gas-elec franchise is a two-tier operation with regional management franchisees and safety inspection franchisees working together in partnership in their various areas. Ongoing business support for all franchisees includes sales and marketing, appointment making, centralised invoicing and credit control, bookkeeping and IT support.

This means that as a gas-elec franchisee you receive the support you need as your business grows. We maximise this support with a bespoke computerised system, so our franchisees do not have to spend time on messy paperwork or accounts.  This allows you more time to utilise your core skills. All inspections are pre-booked and arranged, so your daily schedule is co-ordinated for you. Extra assistance offered by gas-elec includes:

A typical gas-elec franchisee is likely to be earning £60,000 by the third year of their franchise. However, with the great opportunities available within the network, some of our engineers have achieved an annual income of more than £75,000! Plus, many are achieving third year projected incomes in year one.

Dennis is still reaping the rewards of being a successful gas-elec franchise.  He says:

“It’s great, the company gets the work in for me and deals with all the invoicing so I don’t have to chase money. I get paid twice a month and it’s not a dirty job.  I mainly do testing and the necessary remedial work.”

“The benefits of being a gas-elec Franchisee are that you do not do any selling as a local Manager organises  appointments for you. I get about 6 jobs a day. It varies from gas to electrical work and with most jobs I am usually finished within an hour so I get to meet more people.”

Dennis’ typical day…

A typical day for Dennis starts at 8.00 am and he is home by 15.00.  When he returns in the afternoon he processes the details from the day’s jobs on his computer before submitting this to head office.

Dennis also has the benefit of working close to his home and drives a van fully liveried with the gas-elec logo.  On one occasion he had to work further from home but it was hardly a hardship...

“It was a real drag..” Dennis jokes, “I was sent to Spain to do some testing and remedial work on some Thomson hotels in the middle of summer. They asked me in all seriousness how many times a year they would have to get it checked and I was tempted to say ‘twice’ so they’d have to have me back again the same year!”
