Not so long ago…

Not so long ago, if you were interested in starting a franchise business there was only a few avenues available to research the potential options. You could, for example, buy a franchise publication from your local newsagent or attend one of the franchise shows hosted around the UK. Whilst these are still important and valuable resources in themselves, you could be left with the problem of how best to sort the array of literature you might leave a franchise exhibition with, or how to easily compare the many franchises showcased in a hard copy magazine.

For many, the main points to consider are likely to be:-

  • Finance - what is affordable to me in terms of franchise fees I might have to pay
  • Location - what franchises are available in my local area, assuming I don’t wish to relocate or travel

In addition, there may be secondary considerations such as whether you want to work full or part time, or a particular industry you might wish to work in, be it running a resturant or a retail outlet or providing business-to-business services such as advertising, print or business cost reduction services.

The rise of the Internet…

With the rise of the Internet and the World-Wide-Web came easier and faster ways to sort and display information and the ability to personlise it to suit your requirements.

The same is true for the range of franchise directory sites that have arisen over the last 10 years. From a simply directory listing to sophisticated search tools, many of these websites now make it possible, within a few minutes, to arrive at a shortlist of options which suit both your available capital and preferred trading location. They may also make available further refinements such as full or part time opportunities, industry type, etc.
